Banquets Update

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give you all an update on how this year's fundraiser banquets went. First I would like to thank our staff and volunteers for their efforts in putting these events together and making them into the success that they were. I also want to thank all of our hosts for sponsoring tables and inviting guests to come and hear about the work we do and the progress that has occurred this past year. It was wonderful to see so many new faces at the Portland banquet, as well and… Continue

cashews in the store!

This picture was taken in Ziguinchor by a friend of my Dad's. He was excited to see the cashews from Ely Bee, (one of the processing plants that we are partnering with there) on the shelf in one of the Shell station mini marts stores, so he sent us a picture of it. I loved t… Continue

Here in Ziguinchor there is electricity found in all the homes, not just for a few hours every couple of weeks, but everyday all day long. Wow, that is such a blessing. Many of the houses in the city have running water as do most on the outskirts. I found out, interestingly enough that you can… Continue

Some Interesting things I’ve learned about Dakar

June 29, 2009

Well, I’ve already been here for only two days and I’ve already learned some new stuff. A friend of my father’s who owns a taxi here is helping me get around and yesterday he took me over the city to show me some of the sites.

Since it was Sunday and so the city was not very crowded, nor the bay but there was still a few fishermen out trying to catch their evening meal. I asked my friend about the different kinds of fish that are found here and he said there are many. One, which… Continue

The Long Journey

Wow, every time I set out to travel to Africa I am always amazed at how far away it is from the States. When you travel to Europe, it is far but there are so many similarities to remind you of house that it is like you never really left. Yes, there are some distinct differences, the language for instance, but many things are the same. Most people still get up and have their coffee, get in their cars (or use public transport) and go to work or school, and in the evenings they spend time with fami… Continue
